From global to local (“glocal”) contexts\, what law and governance measures are needed as humanity confron ts the triple planetary crisis of biodiversity loss\, climate change\, and pollution? And how can we meaningfully contribute to concerted action in response to the crisis? In collaboration with the South African Research C hair in Cities\, Law and Environmental Sustainability (CLES) at North-West University\, Potchefstroom\, between 6 and 10 October 2026\, the Environmental Law Association of South Africa (ELA) Annual and Student Conferences will explore these questions from diverse perspect ives. We invite government officials\, academics\, environmental assessmen t practitioners\, lawyers\, community members\, students and other stakeho lders to participate in these Conferences to reflect on the way forward.
The Student Conference on 6 and 7 October 2026 is an opportunity for univer sity students (postgraduate and undergraduate) to share and seek input on their ongoing or completed reserach of relevance to the topic\, while the Annual Conference on 8 and 9 October 2026 invites academics\, community members\, environmental assessment practit ioners\, government officials\, lawyers\, and other stakeholders to presen t their work and engage in conversation on glocal governance in an age of triple planetary crises.
O n 10 October 2026\, all attendees are invited to join an excursion to the Vredefort Dome\, a World Heritage Site w here you can bear witness to the earliest and largest meteorite impact on Earth\, San rock art\, special bird species and stunning landscapes.
